Tackling Malnutrition by Overcoming Obstacles in Home Enteral Nutrition in Adults and Pediatrics

September 11 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Free

About the Course

Patients who receive home enteral nutrition (HEN) can experience chronic undernutrition due to limited follow-up and a lack of necessary support. Additionally, these patients are at risk for refeeding syndrome when feeding adjustments and interventions are initiated. While many members of the healthcare team who provide nutrition care to patients work in the inpatient setting and care for patients for short durations, thousands of adult and pediatric patients rely on HEN and require specialized, ongoing care in the outpatient or home setting.

An interprofessional team approach is essential to effectively meeting the patients’ needs and preventing complications across the lifespan. Healthcare team members must take an active and ongoing role in providing nutrition care, troubleshooting obstacles, and managing patients on HEN.
