Meal Sites Reduce Isolation and Increase Socialization

The Congregate Nutrition Program serves individuals aged 60 and older, and in some cases, their spouses, caregivers, and/or persons with disabilities. Nutritious meals are provided to an eligible participant at a nutrition site, senior center, or other group setting. Congregate mal programs provide opportunities for social engagement, information on healthy aging, and meaningful volunteer roles, all of which contribute to an older individuals overall health and well-being. The purpose of congregate meal sites is to reduce hunger and food insecurity, prevent malnutrition, and promote socialization. Sites also provide nutrition education, counseling, exercise programs, classes, outings, and many other opportunities to stay healthy and engaged.
